GCHA (Grand County Historical Association) has filed a multi-phase
restoration grant application number 12-M1-043 for the restoration
of the D&RGW snow/ballast spreader 044 which now resides at the
organization's museum at Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado. This application
may be viewed at the Colorado State Historical Society's website.
The
1901 "Fishbelly" flatcar frame used in 1918 in building the 044
is apparently the only extant piece of equipment remaining from
the standard gauge Rio Grande Western Railway. First phase --
the roof is in bad condition and there need to be significant
repairs to the sides.
